FROM CHIRON TOWARDS PROMETHEUS

The discovery of the asteroid Chiron in 1977 coincided symbolically with the birth of a new archetype. Chiron has been described as the ‘wounded healer’, the bridge between the energy fields of Saturn and Uranus. He has the wisdom to connect heaven with earth, or divine thought and human creative potential with the world of defined norms, rules and limitations.

In myth, Chronus-Saturn is the father of Chiron, but they never bonded. Therefore, rejection and abandonment are two Chirotic core themes. Everybody who has entered the journey of waking up and becoming conscious will share this wound. We all have probably lived through clashes with what Robert Hand calls ‘consensus reality’, an experience of the here-and-now defined by Saturnine restrictions and boundaries. Some people will just more or less accept these limitations, while Uranian personalities will challenge the old order with the intention to break through oppressive and suffocating structures. To some extent, we embody both archetypes; in certain situations we act more Saturnian, while in others more Uranian. Both ways can cause feelings of being cut off and isolated.

Now, how would Chiron fit into the Saturn/Uranus experience? Chiron’s work as an archetype is deeply pragmatic as well as psychic/spiritual. He expresses the paradox of living and dying, our experience of being in body but also enriched with the capacity for spiritual longing and transcendence. With other words, Chiron reminds us not only of our duality but also multidimensionality. Since Bruce Lipton’s new biology or Rupert Sheldrake’s Gaia hypothesis we know that soul/spirit lives within every cell, may it be of human, animal or plant origin. It is energy that creates intelligent patterns, fields, communities or even the transcendental reality of different dimensions. According to esoteric teachings, soul is the magnetic part attracting spirit into every living form. Each cell within our body becomes a potential carrier of consciousness or high frequency energy.

Could it be that Chiron was unable to help himself because he had not yet developed the awareness of an innate healing power that lies encoded in the biology of our bodies? Saturn forces might have been too restrictive or oppressive, still holding the upper hand. He rescued Prometheus instead, a Uranian archetype. Uranian energies are electrifying and revitalizing;  Uranus rules new insights that can change our beliefs on the nature of life itself instantly. Since Chiron’s discovery we have increasingly dealt with a new level of Uranian high-energy frequency (a liberated Prometheus!). Many of us have done important consciousness development work, which deeply acknowledges the innate wisdom of nature. The principle of holism implies that the system as a whole determines  how its parts behave. Or we can heal our bodies, if we can heal our minds. At this critical moment in time, we collectively need to strengthen our belief in our own healing capacity. After all, we make the images of our gods and goddesses (collective beliefs); they express essential processes within our inner and outer landscapes. While Chiron got weary of life and died, Prometheus is still with us!
